One flight lands 5½ years late — and splits a family into two clocks.

Flight 828 takes off in April 2013 and touches down in November 2018 with nobody on board a day older. Blue borders mark the passengers, still living on 2013 time; amber borders mark the family who stayed on the ground and lived all 2,037 missing days — a mother buried, a fiancé married to the best friend, twins suddenly five years apart. The white border is for the ones time bent some other way.

Why the tree matters: the time-fault runs straight through it

Every relationship in this show is really a question about those 5½ missing years — who lived them, who skipped them, and who can forgive whom for it.

The premise

5½ years passed in 3½ hours

Flight 828 leaves Jamaica in April 2013 and lands in November 2018. For the passengers it was one turbulent red-eye; for the world they were dead. Nobody aboard aged a day — and soon every passenger starts hearing callings: shared visions and voices nudging them toward strangers, rescues, and each other. That's why the blue-bordered cards keep colliding with the amber ones.

The twins

Twins, suddenly five years apart

Cal and Olive were born on the same day. Cal boarded 828 with his dad and aunt; Olive stayed with mom. When the plane lands, Olive is a driving-age teenager and Cal is still the 10-year-old with cancer. The show's whole heartbreak in one image: a twin sister who now babysits her twin brother.

The recast

Cal jumps twice — and changes actors

In Season 3 Cal touches the plane's glowing tailfin and vanishes again. He walks back in 5½ years older, so Jack Messina (Seasons 1–2) hands the role to Ty Doran (Seasons 3–4). Cosmic bonus: the jump puts him back at Olive's age — the twins are re-synced, at the cost of his childhood.

The square

The Michaela–Jared–Lourdes–Zeke square

Michaela flew to Jamaica with Jared's proposal unanswered. He mourned her for years, then married her best friend Lourdes — Michaela's mom even blessed it with a hand-knitted afghan. Then Michaela lands, un-aged, and the marriage collapses. Michaela ultimately marries Zeke — a man time bent just like her — while Jared never quite leaves her orbit.

The villain

Angelina and baby Eden

Angelina Meyer was just another passenger the Stones rescued — until a calling convinced her that Ben's new baby Eden was her personal guardian angel. She kills Grace and takes the toddler (dashed red line), resurfacing through Season 4 as the passengers' dark mirror: same callings, monstrous readings.

The clock

The Death Date — why so many †s

Coming back from the dead has an expiry: everyone resurrected gets exactly as long as they were gone, due June 2, 2024. Fail the cosmic judgment and you burn to ash — Angelina's fate. In the finale the surviving passengers land in 2013 as if nothing happened, which quietly un-writes some of this chart's deaths. Time travel keeps no tidy ledgers.

The quick disambiguator

The names and faces people mix up, sorted out in one line each:

One Cal, two actors

Jack Messina is little Cal (Seasons 1–2); Ty Doran is the same Cal after his second jump (Seasons 3–4). Not a new character, not a recasting scandal — 5½ in-world years happened to him overnight.

Olive vs. Eden

Both Ben's daughters. Olive is Cal's twin, the teenager decoding prophecies. Eden is the baby born in 2019, after the return — the one Angelina steals.

Grace vs. Lourdes

The two women of the missing years. Grace is Ben's wife, who waited (mostly) and rebuilt the family. Lourdes is Michaela's best friend, who married Michaela's fiancé Jared believing her dead.

Zeke was never on the plane

He's the show's other miracle: froze to death in a cave in 2017, walked out in 2018 — a one-man Flight 828. Callings, Death Date, and all; that's the white border and the clock badge.

Adrian vs. Eagan

The two troublemaker passengers. Adrian preaches — he founds the 828 “church” that shelters Angelina. Eagan schemes — a chess-hustling con man with photographic memory who sells out anyone, then grows a conscience late.

Karen † vs. Grace †

Which death was when: Karen (Grandma) died of cancer during the 5½ years, so Ben and Michaela land into her absence. Grace was killed by Angelina after the return, at the end of Season 3.

Vance is not a passenger

Robert Vance is the NSA director who investigates 828 — then fakes his death and spends the series as the passengers' best-connected ally. No badge, no callings, all clearance.

Not family — but always in the room
