7th Heaven · A Viewer's Companion
A minister, his wife, and seven children — then the children start marrying, and suddenly there are Kinkirks, Riveras, and Glasses at the table, plus two full sets of grandparents. This chart keeps them straight: oak borders are Camden blood (Eric and the seven kids, oldest to youngest), steeple blue means married in — yes, that includes Annie — and cream is the grandparents.
Spoiler-safe mode is on: death markers, secret-reveal labels and finale outcomes are hidden on this chart and in the notes below. Use the “Spoilers” button in the top bar to show everything again.
Nobody is secretly anybody's father here — the confusion is pure volume. Seven kids, three weddings, two sets of grandparents, and a revolving garage apartment.
Matt, Mary, Lucy, Simon, Ruthie — then, in Season 3, Annie delivers surprise twins Sam and David, nineteen years younger than their eldest brother. The first five grow up on screen; the twins are the reason every family photo needs a wide lens.
Matt married Sarah Glass — a rabbi's daughter and his fellow med student — on their first date, then the two spent a whole season pretending to be merely engaged. Mary married Carlos, who first appeared years earlier as a Christmas houseguest. Lucy married Kevin, the police officer who moved into the garage apartment.
Kevin (Lucy's husband) and Ben (who dated Mary) are brothers on the show — and are played by real-life brothers George and Geoff Stults. So yes: two sisters dated two brothers, and only one pair made it to the altar.
Eric's parents are Colonel John Camden — nobody calls him John — and Ruth. Annie's parents are Charles and Jenny Jackson; Jenny dies of leukemia in the first season, Charles later remarries (step-grandma Ginger) and passes in Season 8.
Jessica Biel stepped back after Season 6, so the show sent Mary out into the world — Buffalo, flight school, a whirlwind marriage to Carlos. Her visits home grow rare and strained for a stretch, but she and Carlos raise three kids, and the Camdens' porch light never goes off for her.
In the 2007 finale, Eric — given a clean bill of health — and Annie pack the family into a motor home and set out to see America. The last image of the series is the Camdens simply hitting the road together.
Eleven seasons of wholesome naming traditions means the same few names keep coming back. Keep these apart:
Charles Jackson is Annie's father. Charlie — Charles Miguel Rivera — is Mary & Carlos's son, named for both of his great-grandfathers. Grandpa first, grandson later.
Col. John Camden is Eric's father — though everyone, family included, just says “the Colonel.” John Camden II is one of Matt & Sarah's twin boys — great-grandfather and great-grandson, sharing a name across four generations.
Ruth Camden is Eric's mother, the Colonel's wife. Ruthie — legally also Ruth Camden — is kid #5. Grandma is the stern one; Ruthie is the one hiding under the kitchen table hearing everything.
The kids scatter into new surnames: Lucy becomes a Kinkirk, Mary becomes a Rivera, and Matt's wife Sarah is a Glass who keeps her maiden name at the hospital — so Dr. Glass and Dr. Camden are married to each other.
Twins run rampant: Sam & David (Annie's), James & John (Matt & Sarah's boys), and Emma & Grace (Mary & Carlos's girls). Even Savannah is played by twins.
George Stults plays Kevin; his younger brother Geoff Stults plays Kevin's younger brother Ben. If they look confusingly alike, that's genetics, not your memory.
The Camden dog is named Happy — and is played by a dog whose actual name is Happy. She appears across all eleven seasons and gets a main-cast credit. No notes.

Mary's ex-boyfriend who moved into the Camden house and somehow just... stayed, long after the romance ended. Honorary son for several seasons.

The ballplayer with a Marine father overseas who lodges with the Camdens — and the great will-they-won't-they of Ruthie's teenage years.

Eric's younger sister, Julie Camden-Hastings. She married Dr. Hank Hastings — the very doctor who delivered Matt and, years later, the twins.

An orphan the Colonel and Ruth adopt in Season 1 — making him Eric's kid brother, and technically an uncle younger than most of his nieces and nephews.
Chart covers the full run of 7th Heaven — all eleven seasons, 1996–2007, spoilers to match — with relationships and dates verified against the 7th Heaven wiki. Portraits are cropped stills self-hosted with this page; Rabbi Richard and Rosina Glass have no photos anywhere on the wiki, so they carry monograms. Happy is credited by name and appears from the pilot to the finale.
